The guided fly fishing has been fantastic the past couple weeks. We have been guiding most of our fly fishing trips on the South Platte near the town of Deckers. April is when one of my favorite hatches of the year gets going and that is the Blue Winged Olive. The BWO’s and increasing water temps have the fish actively feeding throughout the South Platte River.
We are also lucky to have a new private water lease to offer guided fly fishing trips on, the Abell River Ranch. This is a 3 mile stretch of water located on the South Platte near Lake George Colorado (below 11mile canyon). Colorado Trout Hunters is one of the few authorized outfitters picked to guide this gorgeous stretch of water. This is the first time this stretch has ever been open to commercial guiding and Colorado Trout Hunters could not be more excited to run trips here!
We often get asked what we do on our days off and the answer is simple, we go fishing ourselves! That is one of the many things that sets apart our guide service, our guides are truly passion about fly fishing! Here are some photos from a guides day off.
