Weather: Sunny; temps in the 80’s
River Condition: Clear water.
Report:
The weather has been hot along with the fishing. Runoff peaked about 2 weeks ago, and since then the water has been coming down
and river fishing is prime. Logan did a great job on this trip, hooking and landing some incredibly acrobatic fish. We spent the day nymph
fishing, but in the afternoon we did see lots of green drakes and red quill mayflies. The fish were not keyed on the dry flies just yet but
that should change soon.
It seemed that almost everywhere we tried we hooked fish–the trick was just to keep moving. Working the deep pools and seams, then
moving on. All the fish we caught were very healthy, strong, and we had some of the best jumpers of the season.
Stonefly and large mayfly nymphs were the best. The rainbows we landed were from 10 inches all the way up to a 23 inch slab, with lots
of fish between 14 and 20 inches.
In trout news: Almost all of the South Platte drainage is fishing very well. We may have more high water depending on dam releases, but for the most part all the rivers look great! Trips in South Park have had great success of late with some good dry-fly action being
reported. See 2010 fly fishing photos.
